Our Ministries
At the United Church of Colchester we love children and believe that even at a very young age they can know and love God. We are committed to providing them with a safe and nurturing environment which encourages and enriches their spiritual lives and immerses them in the great stories of our faith.
Childrens' Ministries Above all, it is our hope that we can teach our children to be open to asking the kinds of questions that really matter in life. Is there a God? If so, what difference does it make in my life? Who is Jesus? What does his life have to teach us about our lives? We believe that if we can get our children to ask these kinds of questions then we have done our jobs; and we'll trust God to do the rest.
Children's Sunday School Our children's Sunday school curriculum follows the liturgical church calendar and each lesson corresponds with the readings and message for that particular Sunday's worship service. This means the scriptures our children read and think about in Sunday school will be heard again in the worship service. The multi-integrated approach familiarizes our children with the major stories of scripture and reinforces for them the primary themes of the Christian faith. It also offers the whole family a chance to connect over the same Biblical stories during Sunday lunch, which we think is really cool.
Children and Worship Our children have many gifts to bear and we try to incorporate those gifts into the heart of our services. Children are given the opportunity to light candles, sing, read scripture, and sometimes even lead the congregation in prayer. We adults believe we have just as much to learn from our children about faith as they do from us, so we are always looking for ways to let them teach us to worship God.
